February 3, 2011: Week One (1) of the “TURKEY AND BEYOND” course will concentrate on Turkey as a Christian entity before it became an Islamic country.  The first session of the course will focus on Turkey when its largest city, Istanbul was called Constantinople. This session will also examine the Era of the Sultans when Turkey went from being a Christian nation to an Islamic nation.  The rise and fall of the Turkish Sultans and their dynasties will also be discussed.  The session will focus on the Period of the Ottoman Empire during Turkey’s history and the role and influence the Ottoman Empire played in world history.  Bursa, the capital of the Ottoman Empire will be discussed and its role during the Ottoman Empire Period.
